Regen Protein Project

Understanding How Livestock Management Shapes the Quality of Our Food

A New Project

The Nutrient Density Alliance and Edacious are leading an innovative new project to explore how livestock production practices influence the nutritional quality of animal products—including beef, poultry, pork, and dairy.

“Scientist testing nutrient density of dairy in lab” “Farmer with grass-fed cattle in pasture” “Comparison chart of conventional vs regenerative beef nutrients”

How It Works

Nutrient Density Alliance producer members who raise livestock are invited to participate by submitting their products for advanced nutritional testing. Enrollment is open on a rolling basis!

Participants will receive:

  • Detailed nutrient profiles of their products

  • Side-by-side comparisons with conventionally raised samples

  • Access to aggregated project findings that highlight observed variability across production systems

This research is an early assessment—focused on capturing real-world data at retail. While it won’t yet explain all the reasons for nutrient variation, it provides valuable insights to guide future investigations and decision-making.

Scientific Integrity You Can Trust.

All testing is conducted by the Edacious Lab, led by Dr. Shanalee James, PhD in Nutritional Biochemistry and Director of Science and Lab Operations. Edacious uses cutting-edge techniques to assess nutrient density with precision and care.

Get Involved

We’re building this project collaboratively—with farmers, ranchers, brands, scientists, and food system changemakers. Whether you’re interested in submitting samples, learning from the data, or sharing ideas, we’d love to hear from you.
